How do I get to Amed from Denpasar or Ubud?

Amed is about 2.5 to 3 hours from Denpasar or Ubud by car. Private drivers, shared shuttles, or taxi services can take you there comfortably. Please contact us and we can pick you up.

Where should I stay in Amed for diving?

Stay on the Amed coast, close to the shore dive sites. We have two beachfront guest rooms, Pondok Idaman, right above our dive center in Lean Village: wake up, pick up your gear downstairs, and walk to your dive. If we are full, we are happy to recommend other places nearby.

Can I get PADI certified in Amed?

Yes. Many reputable dive centers in Amed offer PADI Open Water, Advanced, and specialty courses with experienced instructors and great learning conditions.

How long does it take to complete the Open Water course in Amed?

The PADI Open Water Diver course typically takes 3 days in Amed, including theory, confined water training, and four open water dives.

Do I need to be a good swimmer to scuba dive?

No. For discovery dives and snorkeling, being comfortable in the water is enough, and your guide stays right beside you. For certification courses, a relaxed swim and float is part of the training, and we help you get there at your own pace. We welcome any swimming level.

What is the minimum age to dive? Is there a maximum age?

Children can join discovery dives and junior certifications from 10 years old. There is no upper age limit: many of our guests are in their sixties and seventies. A short medical questionnaire is all we ask before diving.

Is scuba diving in Amed safe?

Yes, when diving with a certified and experienced dive center. Conditions are usually calm, and reputable shops prioritize safety and training.

Do I need travel insurance for diving in Bali?

It's strongly recommended. Look for travel insurance that includes scuba diving coverage, especially if you're doing advanced dives or courses.

Do you have dive equipment in my size?

Yes. Our rental gear covers a wide range of sizes, from junior to extra-large, across wetsuits, BCDs, fins and masks. Full equipment rental is included with every dive.

Can I dive if I wear glasses?

Yes. Prescription masks are available on request. Contact us with your prescription details before your dive and we will have the right mask ready for you.

How many divers are there per guide?

Never more than two. Small groups let us adapt every dive to your pace and comfort level, and they are safer and more relaxed.

Is Scuba Odessey locally owned?

Yes. Scuba Odessey is locally owned and 100% Balinese-run. The owner and every guide are from Amed and the surrounding villages, so when you dive with us your money stays in the community.
